Zig's post reminded me... We took my niece and nephew here the other day. We were the only ones in the restaurant (that should have been a clue), which was good for the kids, 'cause they ran around like crazy. Service was bad, we got one water at the beginning and she never came back to give us more. The food was greasy (expected that) and she forgot to put in my order of fries, so I got them when I was already finished my sandwich. The kids wanted donuts, so we waited, and waited, and waited... Finally, I had to stand up and make a point of staring at the server so she would come over. It still took a long time to even get the donuts (which appeared on one plate - two kids?). Also, two groups of people came in while we were eating and waited to be seated (never were) and left again. I knew that Winnipeg never should have put a Salisbury house on this bridge. Hopefully they'll do terrible and have to change the restaurant that's there. Oh, the view was not as good as I thought it would be, either. Whatever!

The restaurant on the bridge

Too bad it was such a bad experience b/c it looks like a really neat place.
I'd actually have to argue about this one - True that the service is a little slack, but the last time we went there - just this past weekend - the view was beautiful, the food was great with lots of selection, and the decor was fantastic.
Also, just a note - Sals was the only place that put in an offer on this spot - no other resturaunt wanted it due to the extravegent cost.
And also - it's nice having a resturaunt in such a beautiful location that I can actually afford to go to!
James, CA is Canada (but you're right, it is also California)!
Alyssa, Glad you liked it : ) I will never go there again!
I've been following your comments and your blog for a while now, and I hate to say it, but you often seem very negative. If you "Positivify" your life things get much easier, and things are much more enjoyable. Bad service doesn't seem as bad, bad drivers are just that - bad drivers, and bad views from restaurants don't matter. Focusing on the good in every situation makes life so much more pleasant... and a lot less stressful. - afterall, wouldn't it be much nicer if you could enjoy that restaurant - Logziella is right... it does look like a neat place! -
LOL! Sorry but I've got to defend the A-Kat here. Complaining can be entertaining - esp when it is well deserved. I agree that for such a great spot, the Salisbury House is the worst possible restaurant to put there.
Think of the grottiest truck stop you've ever been to. Well, now you know what the S.House is like! It does not belong in a gorgeous location like that and I'd be annoyed too if I spent money for that.
Sometimes the funniest things come out of a good rant.
It's true, Sals is pretty nasty (most of the time), but you gotta give that ONE location credit for looking pretty snazy inside. I'm sure in 30 years from now it will still look that same, but its surprisingly nice - ESPECIALLY for a salsbury house.
Brad, I am by far a negative person (SOMEONE BACK ME UP HERE!)!!! I write about things that happen in my life and I do believe that my rants are funny (thanks for the boost Ali : ) BTW, There are many blog entries that I've written that talk about positive and good experiences. I am so not stressed out and for the most part pretty easy going. And, I'm quite a positive person who laughs a lot. Please don't insult people if you don't know them at all!!
The Sals does look snazzy on the inside, however, it was dirty. And, I don't care how good a restaurant looks, if the service is crappy and they're not busy (we were the only ones there, BTW) then it doesn't matter how nice it looks.
Logsi, it looks great from the outside (especially with a great photographer), but I'm afraid that just isn't all that matters. It really was too bad that the experience was so crappy. Although, we had tons of fun with the kids (who actually behaved and held out the entire time, which was a miracle).
Yah, I have to stick up for AliKat here too. I think you are a sweet & easy going person as well.
Of course, if you get bad service you feel like telling someone about it, as do I and my Quiznos experience. You feel like you have just done someone a favor in saving them from spending $$ at the same dump!
Brad, it seems like you were just trying to help and had good intentions and all...but I can see why that would make Ali Kat feel aukward on HER OWN blog.
And that's just it. It's HER blog and she can and should be able to feel free to express herself in whatever way she feels like and not get a comment for the world to see that is not anything less that nice.
I am not trying to start anything here...really I am not. Just felt the need to have Ali Kat's back on this one as I would hope someone would do for me as well.
I wouldn't go back either if you were the only one in the restaurant and still got treated that way.
Brad, who the heck is Brad? And why does he choose to judge someone just on their writing. I sure would be a little miffed if the first time someone I don't even know said to me that I was negative. How about hi, how are you, nice to meet you. That might be a little more positive!
Thanks for the vote of confidence, guys!!
I am sorry, I didn't mean to judge. That wasn't my intention at all. So my sincere apologies. I do like reading your blog though, and yes your rants are funny.
We are all cool Brad! Thanks for clearing that up. Sorry to have gotten so defensive. Hope to see you around more. :0)
Ok Brad you are cool to apologize. Hey, you will find out that we are all a pretty cool group. Why don't you make your name public so we can meet you in blog land too. You will find out that Ali Kat is quite a smiley, funny gal. And even though we all vent as an out on our blog, we are all pretty cool.
Brad, thanks for the apology. Very nice of you to do so. I find I get pretty defensive, so I also apologize if I came on too strong. Hope to here from you more often and yeah, let us in on your blog site!
